So, you’re looking for a bedtime story?
Your Mom or your Dad are probably reading this to you.
Or maybe you’re reading it on your own.
You didn’t want a story about fairy-princesses or cuddly picnic bears…
You chose this story because it’s about monsters!

Maybe you want something scary.

Maybe something funny.

But I think you chose monsters because you want to know about that oozing, slorping beast under your bed.

Or maybe the croaking, groaning, sharp-toothed furry one in your closet.

Or maybe what gets your curiosity is the one with the skinny fingers and sharp claws who tries to open your window at night.

Either way, you’re reading, or listening to my story because you believe in monsters, and you want to know about them.
Right?

Well then, let me tell you about Monsters.

Monsters have been around just as long as humans have. In fact, you can even still see some pictures of monsters on cave walls.

And believe it or not, not all monsters are bad.
Although it is true that some are bad (like the one under your bed, or in your closet, or out your window), there are many many other types of monsters.
Some are good. Some are bad. Some are, well…just plain dumb.
But some of the different kinds of monsters that are out there are one such as:

Big Monsters
Small Monsters
Bug Monsters
Animal Monsters
People Monsters
Classic Monsters
Movie Monsters
Retro Monsters
And “Who-knows-what?” Monsters

There are Monsters who just like to eat…
Some who just want to play…
Some Monsters who love to cause trouble…
And some monsters who just…well…
…they don’t know what they want.

But there is another kind of monster that hardly anyone knows about.

In the Monster world, they’re known as
Roknot’s.

They’re like….(how can I explain it?)…
If, in our world, a Monk became a Police officer…
…and was a Monster…
He’d be a Roknot.

My story is about a Roknot named Fawp.

Now, before I get into my story about Fawp, let me tell you about what a Roknot does.

A Roknot is a Monster who used to be a bad one. They were once monsters who would hide under your bed, or in your closet.
But, with each Roknot, something happened that made them change.

Now, what a Roknot does is stops all the bad Monsters from picking on all the little ones. (because Monsters are mean and scary to everyone, not just humans, ya know.)
They help out Monsters who can’t do certain things on their own…
But most importantly,
They stop the bad monsters from coming into the human world.

Believe it or not, it has actually been 10 years since any human was hurt by a monster!
That’s because of Fawp.

You see, Fawp was the very first Roknot. In fact, 10 years ago, Fawp himself loved to hide in kid’s closets and wait for the to sleep and….
…Well, you can figure out the rest.

No one knows what happened, but suddenly Fawp changed.
Oh, he would still wait in closets, but he was no longer waiting for the children to fall asleep…
…he was waiting for the other monsters.

Suddenly, the big-bad Monsters stopped being bad. Especially if Fawp was around.
Some…even went missing.
Fawp became feared by all the bad Monsters, and loved by all the helpless ones.

He would wander some nights, (for Monsters, are only really awake at night) and no matter how big and bad another Monster would be, they would move out of his way, cowering in fear.

Except for one.

Rothmog.

Here was a Monster that everyone feared. Monster and child alike were the same (that is to say, nothing) to him, and the things which he did to all he crossed were...how shall I put it?

I assume that this is a child who is sharing in this story, so I will spare you the gruesome details.

However, let it be said that any deep, dark, evil fear you may have that keeps you awake at night in a cold sweat and shaking in your bed, afraid to close your eyes because you're too scared that your deepest fear would become reality, is nothing...and I mean nothing, compared to what Rothmog would do.

Rothmog was legendary....as was Fawp. Neither of them was afraid of eachother, and all were afraid of both.

Every monster, good, bad, and just plain dumb, knew that it would lead to Fawp and Rothmog squaring off, sizing eachother up. Rothmog the Giant, and Ever-Feared, and Fawp, the puny, yet mighty Roknot.

You see, it came to a time, that wherever there was a Bad Monster that Fawp had stopped, they seemed to be doing the bidding of Rothmog. Some were mean only because they were afraid of Rothmog, and what he would do to them if they didn't obey.

These Monsters, Fawp was kinder to. Instead of imprisoning them like the others, he would hide them, and lead Rothmog to believe that they had been imprisoned like all the others....and he took pleasure in the thought of their agony.

It always seemed that Fawp and Rothmog would seem to come near eachother. Fawp would always be on the trail of Rothmog, and Rothmog would always seem to be close to…eliminating Fawp. But it always seemed that they managed to avoid eachother.

Fawp always, however, managed to find Rothmog’s minions, each time, getting one step closer to catching the Notorious beast. Eventually, Fawp was so successful that he had to create a form of Monster Prison.

Imagine a place, so terrible, so horrifying, that even the most terrifying of any monster would rather die than go there. A place so dark, you cannot see. So cavernous, that every sound made is echoed off every wall, and comes back to you in haunting ways. A place, where every glowing eye you see amidst the blackness is the eye of another, possibly more Evil Monster. A place where the guards…are the inmates. Everyone feared the place known as Kranaflogg.

Fawp created an imprisonment system where the guards…were the inmates. Basically, Kranaflogg was a deep, cavernous pit that no one could escape. And if you tried, you were pulled back in by the other prisoners who scrambled over you to get out. All the imprisoned monsters hated eachother so much, that it was impossible to escape without causing a riot.

Such was Kranaflogg. Nothing could get out. Ever. And all Monsters feared it, even the bad ones. (Because Bad Monsters are afraid of eachother too, you know.)

EDIT: ADDED SECTION

One day, Rothmog came through the closet door that lead into the room of little Sam, but Sam was waiting.
Sam knew about Monsters, because he had seen them before, and he wasn’t afraid of them. You see, Sam was abit of a bully and scoundrel, and was angry with everyone he ever knew…especially his little sister, Lira.
When Lira was born, Sam’s parents started to ignore him, (which, I guess, in a way isn’t all that uncommon) and pay all attention to the new baby girl.
Sam waited for things to change and go back to normal, but they never did. He would do everything he could think of to get his parents’ attention. Yelling, screaming, pleading, crying, even breaking things to get in trouble just so they would notice him…but it hardly ever worked. Little Lira always took all their time.
When Lira turned 6 years old, Sam decided that he had had enough. He stayed up all night every night, waiting for the biggest, baddest monster to come around….and He did.
When Rothmog came through that closet door, Sam stood on the edge of his bed and told Rothmog that he would cut a deal with him.
Sam had a list. A list of every child in the neighborhood and when they went to bed at night…some names even showed when they were going to be home….alone.
In exchange for this list of…easy prey…Sam demanded that Little Lira be the First on Rothmog’s list. Sam wanted her gone…and to have his own life back.
Grinning evilly, Rothmog agreed. They tried to shake hands to seal the deal, but Rothmog was so big, and Sam so little that all Sam could do was shake Rothmog’s pinky-claw.
What Sam didn’t think about was what Rothmog was…a Monster. And Monsters, no matter what kind of deal is made…can never be trusted.
Rothmog would, of course, take Little Lira away, as promised, but he didn’t tell Sam that Sam himself would be taken as well…as soon as Rothmog got his huge claws on that list.
After making the ‘deal’, Rothmog retreated back to the world of Monsters, softly chuckling to himself over his new found luck and soon to be harvest.

But there was another Monster present at this exchange. Remember before, when I mentioned the Monster with the skinny fingers and sharp claws who tries to open your window at night?
I never mentioned if they were good or bad.
Looking simply like a part of the tree outside Sam’s bedroom window, the Tree-Monster named “Oakenash”  was listening in on Sam and Rothmog’s deal. Quietly, as  Sam drifted off to sleep, he stuck one of his long, slender, twig-like fingers into the crack in the window and lifted it open. Cautiously reaching in, he nabbed Sam’s list lying on the little table beside Sam’s bed, and quickly, sucking himself into the ground, made his way to Fawp in the Monster world.
Hearing Oakenash’s tale and reading Sam’s list, Fawp gathered a council of all the Roknots he could find. He came up with a plan to stop Rothmog and his minions once and for all.

(then it goes on in my laptop version, to talk about the Monster version of Azkaban, and the story ends with Rothmog's capture and imprisonment in said-azkaban....and at the VERY end, Im talkin the LAST page......we find Rothmog is the story teller...............and that he's actually broken out.
"Oh...and if you ever see Fawp...
.....tell him I said Hello....."

THE END)
"MONSTERS: The Good, The Bad and the Just Plain Dumb"

A work in progress, but having major writer's block...any and all help would be grand.

I really think this is a neat story. I like your style and I think it has a lot of potential.

I'd use a different profession than 'monk' becoming a policeman for a kids' book- I'm not sure how many kids have a solid idea of what a monk is, so they might not get the comparison. I'm also a little unsure about the twist at the end- it's a really cool twist, but I'm not sure why Rothmog would tell a story or that he would necessarily think of himself as 'bad'. 'Nasty' perhaps, but not 'bad' maybe? The second is easily fixed, and the first could be glossed over, they were just potential issues I wanted to bring to your attention.

As for moving on, were you thinking that they would have a direct physical confrontation showdown type thing? Or is Fawp going to outwit Rothmog somehow?
